Joshua to Succeed Moses

31:1And Moses went and spoke these words to all Israel. 2And he said to them: "I am a son of a hundred and twenty years this day; I am no longer able to go out and to come in; and the LORD has said to me, 'You shall not cross over this Jordan.'"

3The LORD your God, he is the one crossing over before you; he will destroy these nations from before you, and you shall dispossess them; Joshua, he is the one crossing over before you, as the LORD has spoken.

31:4And the LORD will do to them as he did to Sihon and to Og, the kings of the Amorites, and to their land, whom he destroyed.

5And the LORD will give them up before you, and you shall do to them according to all the commandment which I have commanded you. 6Be strong and be courageous, do not fear and do not be terrified before them; for the LORD your God, he is the one going with you; he will not fail you nor forsake you.

31:7And Moses called to Joshua and said to him in the eyes of all Israel: "Be strong and be courageous; for you shall go with this people to the land which the LORD has sworn to their fathers to give to them; and you, you shall cause them to inherit it. 8And the LORD, he is the one going before you; he will be with you, he will not fail you nor forsake you; do not fear and do not be dismayed."

The Reading of the Law

9And Moses wrote this Torah and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and to all the elders of Israel.

31:10And Moses commanded them, saying: "At the end of seven years, at the appointed time (mo-ed) of the year of release, in the feast of booths, 11when all Israel comes to appear before the face of the LORD your God in the place which he chooses, you shall read this Torah before all Israel in their ears.

12Assemble the people, the men and the women and the little ones, and your sojourner who is within your gates, so that they may hear and so that they may learn, and fear the LORD your God, and observe to do all the words of this Torah; 13and their sons, who have not known, may hear and learn to fear the LORD your God all the days that you are living upon the ground which you are crossing over the Jordan there to possess it."

God Commissions Joshua

31:14And the LORD said to Moses: "Behold, your days have drawn near to die; call Joshua, and present yourselves in the tent of appointed time (mo-ed), that I may command him." And Moses and Joshua went and presented themselves in the tent of appointed time (mo-ed). 15And the LORD appeared in the tent in a pillar of cloud; and the pillar of cloud stood over the door of the tent.

16And the LORD said to Moses: "Behold, you are about to lie down with your fathers; and this people will rise up and go astray after the foreign gods of the land into whose midst it is going, and they will forsake me and break my covenant which I have cut with them.

17And my anger will burn against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they will be for devouring, and many evils and troubles will find them; and he will say in that day, 'Is it not because my God is not in my midst that these evils have found me?'

18And I, I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evil which he has done, for he has turned to other gods.

19And now, write for yourselves this song, and teach it to the sons of Israel; put it in their mouth, so that this song may be for me as a witness against the sons of Israel.

6Reading 6 Deuteronomy 31:20–24Chapter page with footnotes →

31:20For I will bring him to the ground which I swore to his fathers, flowing with milk and honey, and he will eat and be satisfied and grow fat, and he will turn to other gods and serve them, and they will spurn me and break my covenant. 21And it will come to pass, when many evils and troubles find him, that this song will answer before him as a witness; for it will not be forgotten from the mouth of his seed; for I know his inclination which he is doing today, before I bring him to the land which I swore."

22And Moses wrote this song in that day, and taught it to the sons of Israel.

23And he commanded Joshua the son of Nun and said: "Be strong and be courageous; for you, you shall bring the sons of Israel to the land which I swore to them; and I, I will be with you."

The Torah beside the Ark

24And it came to pass, when Moses had finished writing the words of this Torah upon a book until their completion,

7Reading 7 Deuteronomy 31:25–30Chapter page with footnotes →

31:25that Moses commanded the Levites, who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD, saying: 26"Take this book of the Torah, and put it at the side of the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness against you. 27For I, I know your rebellion and your stiff neck; behold, while I am yet living with you this day, you have been rebellious against the LORD; and how much more after my death?

28Assemble to me all the elders of your tribes and your officers, that I may speak these words in their ears, and call to witness against them the heavens and the earth. 29For I know that after my death you will surely act corruptly and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you; and the evil will befall you in the latter end of the days, because you will do that which is evil in the eyes of the LORD, to provoke him through the work of your hands."

Moses Begins His Song

30And Moses spoke in the ears of all the assembly of Israel the words of this song until their completion:

Prophets (Haftarah) Isaiah 55:6–56:8

PIsaiah 55:6–56:8Chapter page with footnotes →

55:6Seek the LORD while he may be found, call upon him while he is near.

7Let the wicked forsake his way, and the man of iniquity his thoughts; and let him return to the LORD, and he will have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

8For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, says the LORD.

9For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

10For as the rain comes down, and the snow, from the heavens, and does not return there, but waters the earth and makes it bring forth and sprout, and gives seed to the sower and bread to the eater,

11so shall my word be that goes out of my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall do what I please, and prosper in that for which I sent it.

12For with joy you shall go out, and in peace you shall be led forth; the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

13Instead of the thornbush shall come up the cypress, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle; and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.

Salvation for Foreigners

56:1Thus says the LORD: Keep judgment and do righteousness, for my salvation (Yeshuah) is near to come, and my righteousness to be revealed.

2Happy is the man who does this, and the son of man who holds it fast, who keeps the Shabbat from profaning it, and keeps his hand from doing any evil.

3And let not the son of the foreigner who has joined himself to the LORD speak, saying, "The LORD will surely separate me from his people"; neither let the eunuch say, "Behold, I am a dry tree."

4For thus says the LORD to the eunuchs who keep my Shabbat, and choose what pleases me, and hold fast my covenant:

5I will give to them in my house and within my walls a hand and a name, better than sons and daughters; an everlasting name I will give him, that shall not be cut off.

6And the sons of the foreigner who join themselves to the LORD, to minister to him and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one who keeps the Shabbat from profaning it, and holds fast my covenant—

7I will bring them to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer; their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be acceptable upon my altar; for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all the peoples.

8Declares the Lord GOD, who gathers the dispersed of Israel: Yet I will gather others to him, besides his gathered ones.

Messiah’s Unchanging Nature

13:5Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for He has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."

6So we can confidently say, "The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?"

Dates and Torah and Haftarah ranges are calculated with Hebcal (diaspora schedule, Hebrew verse numbering, which the YLV Old Testament follows). The Apostolic Writings pairings are chosen by Bible Homes Inc. Scripture: Yeshua Literal Version (YLV).
