Translation is always a choice. We have opened things up so you can see for yourself what lay underneath that choice.
What opens when you tap one word
- Morphology — what part of speech it is and what form it has taken. Tense · voice · person · number · gender.
- Strong's number — the number that lets you follow the same word across the whole Bible.
- Word meaning — the breadth of what the word carries, before it is narrowed to a single rendering.
- Lemma and transliteration — the dictionary form, and how it sounds.
- Occurrence concordance — every place the word is used in the Bible, so you can see for yourself how other translators handled the same word.
Why we built it
Tools for looking at the source text word by word have existed for a long time. But those tools were mostly locked inside expensive Bible-study software, and only those who could pay for it could see the original.
The source text is not the property of a particular group of people. So this organization analysed the whole Hebrew Old Testament and Greek New Testament word by word and left it where anyone can open it, at no charge, with no login. We believe this is the most concrete contribution we make as a nonprofit.

How to use it
Pick the one word that caught you
Do not try to open every word in a verse. The single word that snagged your attention while reading is enough.
Look at the breadth of meaning
A word entry usually lists several meanings side by side. The translator chose one of them. Seeing the breadth before that choice is the purpose of this analysis.
See how it is used elsewhere
Tap the occurrence concordance and every place the word is used comes up. The meaning of a word is settled not by a dictionary but by the places that word has lived in.
Where the text comes from
We state plainly which source texts and numbering we used. The Hebrew is the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (OSHB), the Greek is the Robinson-Pierpont Byzantine Textform, and the word numbering is Strong's. The details are on Text Sources & Copyright.
