Purification after Childbirth

12:1And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: 2Speak to the sons of Israel, saying: A woman, when she conceives seed and bears a male, then she shall be unclean seven days; as the days of the impurity of her sickness she shall be unclean. 3And in the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.

4And thirty days and three days she shall remain in the blood of purification; she shall not touch any holy thing, and she shall not come into the sanctuary, until the days of her purification are fulfilled.

5And if she bears a female, then she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her impurity; and sixty days and six days she shall remain upon the blood of purification.

6And when the days of her purification are fulfilled, for a son or for a daughter, she shall bring a lamb a son of its year for a burnt offering, and a young pigeon or a turtledove for a sin offering, to the opening of the tent of appointed time (mo-ed), to the priest. 7And he shall offer it before the LORD, and make atonement for her; and she shall be cleansed from the fountain of her blood. This is the Torah of her who bears, whether for a male or for a female.

8And if her hand does not find enough for a lamb, then she shall take two turtledoves or two young pigeons, the one for a burnt offering and the one for a sin offering; and the priest shall make atonement for her, and she shall be clean.

Laws about Skin Diseases

13:1And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying: 2A man, when there is in the skin of his flesh a rising, or a scab, or a bright spot, and it becomes in the skin of his flesh a plague of leprous disease, then he shall be brought to Aaron the priest, or to one of his sons the priests.

3And the priest shall look at the plague in the skin of the flesh; and if the hair in the plague has turned white, and the appearance of the plague is deeper than the skin of his flesh, it is a plague of leprous disease; and the priest shall look at him and pronounce him unclean.

4And if the bright spot is white in the skin of his flesh, and its appearance is not deeper than the skin, and its hair has not turned white, then the priest shall shut up the plague seven days. 5And the priest shall look at him on the seventh day, and behold, if the plague has stayed in its appearance (in its eyes), the plague has not spread in the skin, then the priest shall shut him up seven days a second time.

2Reading 2 Leviticus 13:6–17Chapter page with footnotes →

13:6And the priest shall look at him on the seventh day a second time, and behold, if the plague is dim, and the plague has not spread in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him clean; it is a scab; and he shall wash his clothes and be clean.

7But if the scab surely spreads in the skin after his being seen by the priest for his cleansing, then he shall be seen a second time by the priest. 8And the priest shall look, and behold, if the scab has spread in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is leprous disease.

9A plague of leprous disease, when it is in a man, then he shall be brought to the priest. 10And the priest shall look, and behold, if there is a white rising in the skin, and it has turned the hair white, and there is raw flesh of living flesh in the rising, 11it is an old leprous disease in the skin of his flesh, and the priest shall pronounce him unclean; he shall not shut him up, for he is unclean.

12And if the leprous disease surely breaks out in the skin, and the leprous disease covers all the skin of the plague, from his head and to his feet, as far as all the sight of the eyes of the priest, 13then the priest shall look, and behold, if the leprous disease has covered all his flesh, then he shall pronounce the plague clean; it has all turned white; he is clean.

14But on the day living flesh appears in him, he shall be unclean. 15And the priest shall look at the living flesh and pronounce him unclean; the living flesh is unclean; it is leprous disease. 16Or when the living flesh turns again and is changed to white, then he shall come to the priest; 17and the priest shall look at him, and behold, if the plague has been changed to white, then the priest shall pronounce the plague clean; he is clean.

3Reading 3 Leviticus 13:18–23Chapter page with footnotes →

13:18And flesh, when there is in it, in its skin, a boil, and it is healed, 19and in the place of the boil there is a white rising, or a reddish-white bright spot, then it shall be seen by the priest. 20And the priest shall look, and behold, if its appearance is lower than the skin, and its hair has turned white, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is a plague of leprous disease; in the boil it has broken out.

21But if the priest looks at it, and behold, there is no white hair in it, and it is not lower than the skin, and it is dim, then the priest shall shut him up seven days. 22And if it surely spreads in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is a plague. 23But if the bright spot stays in its place, it has not spread, it is the scar of the boil, and the priest shall pronounce him clean.

4Reading 4 Leviticus 13:24–28Chapter page with footnotes →

13:24Or flesh, when there is in its skin a burning of fire, and the raw flesh of the burning becomes a bright spot, reddish-white, or white, 25then the priest shall look at it, and behold, if the hair in the bright spot has turned white, and its appearance is deeper than the skin, it is leprous disease; in the burning it has broken out; and the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is a plague of leprous disease.

26But if the priest looks at it, and behold, there is no white hair in the bright spot, and it is not lower than the skin, and it is dim, then the priest shall shut him up seven days. 27And the priest shall look at him on the seventh day; if it surely spreads in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is a plague of leprous disease. 28And if the bright spot stays in its place, it has not spread in the skin, and it is dim, it is the rising of the burning, and the priest shall pronounce him clean; for it is the scar of the burning.

5Reading 5 Leviticus 13:29–39Chapter page with footnotes →

13:29And a man or a woman, when there is in him a plague on the head or on the beard, 30then the priest shall look at the plague, and behold, if its appearance is deeper than the skin, and in it there is thin yellow hair, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean; it is a scall; it is leprous disease of the head or of the beard.

31And when the priest looks at the plague of the scall, and behold, its appearance is not deeper than the skin, and there is no black hair in it, then the priest shall shut up the plague of the scall seven days. 32And the priest shall look at the plague on the seventh day, and behold, if the scall has not spread, and there is no yellow hair in it, and the appearance of the scall is not deeper than the skin, 33then he shall be shaven, but the scall he shall not shave; and the priest shall shut up the scall seven days a second time. 34And the priest shall look at the scall on the seventh day, and behold, if the scall has not spread in the skin, and its appearance is not deeper than the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him clean; and he shall wash his clothes and be clean.

35But if the scall surely spreads in the skin after his cleansing, 36then the priest shall look at him, and behold, if the scall has spread in the skin, the priest shall not seek for the yellow hair; he is unclean.

37But if in his eyes the scall has stayed, and black hair has sprung up in it, the scall is healed; he is clean; and the priest shall pronounce him clean.

38And a man or a woman, when there are in the skin of their flesh bright spots, white bright spots, 39then the priest shall look, and behold, if in the skin of their flesh the bright spots are dim white, it is a tetter; it has broken out in the skin; he is clean.

6Reading 6 Leviticus 13:40–54Chapter page with footnotes →

13:40And a man, when his head loses its hair, he is bald; he is clean. 41And if from the edge of his face his head loses its hair, he is forehead-bald; he is clean. 42But when there is in the bald spot, or in the bald forehead, a reddish-white plague, it is leprous disease breaking out in his bald spot, or in his bald forehead. 43Then the priest shall look at him, and behold, if the rising of the plague is reddish-white in his bald spot, or in his bald forehead, like the appearance of leprous disease of the skin of the flesh, 44he is a leprous man, he is unclean; the priest shall surely pronounce him unclean; his plague is in his head.

45And the leprous one in whom the plague is, his clothes shall be torn, and his head shall go loose, and he shall cover over the upper lip, and he shall cry, "Unclean, unclean." 46All the days that the plague is in him he shall be unclean; he is unclean; he shall dwell alone; outside the camp shall his dwelling be.

A Plague in a Garment

47And the garment, when there is in it a plague of leprous disease, in a garment of wool, or in a garment of linen, 48or in the warp, or in the woof, of the linen, or of the wool, or in a skin, or in any work of skin, 49and the plague is greenish or reddish in the garment, or in the skin, or in the warp, or in the woof, or in any article of skin, it is a plague of leprous disease, and it shall be shown to the priest. 50And the priest shall look at the plague, and shut up the plague seven days.

51And he shall look at the plague on the seventh day; if the plague has spread in the garment, or in the warp, or in the woof, or in the skin, in all that the skin is made into for work, the plague is a malignant leprous disease; it is unclean. 52And he shall burn the garment, or the warp, or the woof, in wool or in linen, or any article of skin in which the plague is; for it is a malignant leprous disease; in the fire it shall be burned.

53And if the priest looks, and behold, the plague has not spread in the garment, or in the warp, or in the woof, or in any article of skin, 54then the priest shall command, and they shall wash that in which the plague is, and he shall shut it up seven days a second time.

7Reading 7 Leviticus 13:55–59Chapter page with footnotes →

13:55And the priest shall look after the plague has been washed, and behold, if the plague has not changed its appearance (its eye), and the plague has not spread, it is unclean; in the fire you shall burn it; it is a fret, whether in its bare back or in its bare front.

56And if the priest looks, and behold, the plague is dim after it has been washed, then he shall tear it out of the garment, or out of the skin, or out of the warp, or out of the woof. 57And if it appears still in the garment, or in the warp, or in the woof, or in any article of skin, it is breaking out; in the fire you shall burn that in which the plague is.

58And the garment, or the warp, or the woof, or any article of skin which you wash, if the plague departs from them, then it shall be washed a second time, and shall be clean.

59This is the Torah of the plague of leprous disease of a garment of wool or of linen, or the warp, or the woof, or any article of skin, to pronounce it clean, or to pronounce it unclean.

Feeding a Hundred Men

4:42And a man came from Baal-shalishah and brought to the man of God bread of firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley, and fresh grain in his sack. And he said, "Give to the people, that they may eat."

43And his attendant said, "What, shall I set this before a hundred men?" And he said, "Give to the people, that they may eat; for thus says the LORD, 'They shall eat and have some left over.'"

44And he set it before them, and they ate and had some left over, according to the word of the LORD.

Naaman Cured of Leprosy

5:1And Naaman, captain of the army of the king of Aram, was a great man before his lord and lifted up of face, for by him the LORD had given deliverance to Aram; and the man was a mighty man of valor, a leper.

2And Aram had gone out in bands and had taken captive from the land of Israel a little girl, and she came to be before the wife of Naaman. 3And she said to her mistress, "Would that my lord were before the prophet who is in Samaria! Then he would gather him from his leprosy."

4And he went in and told his lord, saying, "Thus and thus said the girl who is from the land of Israel."

5And the king of Aram said, "Go, come, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel." And he went and took in his hand ten talents of silver and six thousand of gold and ten changes of garments.

6And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, "And now, when this letter comes to you, behold, I have sent to you Naaman my servant, that you may gather him from his leprosy."

7And it came to pass, when the king of Israel read the letter, that he tore his garments and said, "Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this one sends to me to gather a man from his leprosy? But surely know, please, and see that he is seeking an occasion against me."

8And it came to pass, when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his garments, that he sent to the king, saying, "Why have you torn your garments? Let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel."

9And Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the doorway of the house of Elisha.

10And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, "Go and wash seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh shall return to you, and you shall be clean."

11And Naaman was angry and went away, and said, "Behold, I said to myself, 'He will surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the LORD his God, and wave his hand over the place, and recover the leper.' 12Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be clean?" And he turned and went away in wrath.

13And his servants came near and spoke to him and said, "My father, had the prophet spoken to you a great thing, would you not do it? How much more when he said to you, 'Wash and be clean'?"

14And he went down and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God; and his flesh returned like the flesh of a little lad, and he was clean.

Gehazi’s Greed and Leprosy

15And he returned to the man of God, he and all his camp, and came and stood before him, and said, "Behold now, I know that there is no God in all the earth except in Israel; and now, take, please, a blessing from your servant."

16And he said, "As the LORD lives, before whom I stand, I will not take it." And he urged him to take it, but he refused.

17And Naaman said, "If not, let there be given, please, to your servant two mules' burden of ground; for your servant will no longer make burnt offering and sacrifice to other gods, but to the LORD. 18For this thing may the LORD pardon your servant: when my lord goes into the house of Rimmon to bow down there, and he leans on my hand, and I bow down in the house of Rimmon; when I bow down in the house of Rimmon, may the LORD pardon your servant in this thing."

19And he said to him, "Go in peace." And he went from him a stretch of land.

Yeshua Presented at the Temple

2:21And when eight days were completed for circumcising Him, His name was called Yeshua, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.

22And when the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord — 23as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord" — 24and to offer a sacrifice according to what is stated in the law of the Lord: "a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons."
