The Pillars of Cloud and Fire
13:17And it came to pass, when Pharaoh sent the people out, that God did not lead them by the way of the land of the Philistines, although it was near; for God said, "Lest the people repent when they see war, and return to Egypt." 18And God led the people around, by the way of the wilderness of the Sea of Reeds; and the sons of Israel went up armed out of the land of Egypt.
19And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him; for he had surely sworn the sons of Israel, saying, "God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here with you."
20And they journeyed from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, at the edge of the wilderness. 21And the LORD was going before them by day in a pillar of cloud, to lead them the way, and by night in a pillar of fire, to give light to them, to go by day and night. 22The pillar of cloud by day, and the pillar of fire by night, did not depart from before the people.
Pharaoh Pursues the Israelites
14:1And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: 2"Speak to the sons of Israel, that they turn back and encamp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, before Baal-zephon; opposite it you shall encamp by the sea.
3And Pharaoh will say of the sons of Israel, 'They are entangled in the land, the wilderness has shut them in.' 4And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he will pursue after them; and I will be honored through Pharaoh and through all his army, and the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD." And they did so.
5And it was told to the king of Egypt that the people had fled; and the heart of Pharaoh and his servants was turned against the people, and they said, "What is this we have done, that we have sent Israel away from serving us?"
6And he harnessed his chariot, and took his people with him. 7And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and officers over all of them.
8And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the sons of Israel; and the sons of Israel were going out with a high hand.

14:9And the Egyptians pursued after them, and overtook them encamping by the sea, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, beside Pi-hahiroth, before Baal-zephon.
10And Pharaoh drew near; and the sons of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were journeying after them; and they were very afraid, and the sons of Israel cried out to the LORD. 11And they said to Moses, "Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us to die in the wilderness? What is this you have done to us, to bring us out from Egypt? 12Is this not the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, 'Cease from us, that we may serve the Egyptians'? For it is better for us to serve the Egyptians than for us to die in the wilderness."
13And Moses said to the people, "Do not fear; stand firm, and see the salvation (Yeshuah) of the LORD, which he will work for you today; for as you have seen the Egyptians today, you shall not see them again any more, forever. 14The LORD will fight for you, and you shall be silent."

Parting the Red Sea
14:15And the LORD said to Moses, "Why do you cry out to me? Speak to the sons of Israel, that they journey forward. 16And you, lift up your staff, and stretch out your hand over the sea, and split it; and the sons of Israel shall go into the midst of the sea on dry ground. 17And I, behold, I am hardening the heart of the Egyptians, and they will go in after them; and I will be honored through Pharaoh and through all his army, through his chariots and through his horsemen. 18And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I am honored through Pharaoh, through his chariots and through his horsemen."
19And the angel of God, who was going before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud removed from before them and stood behind them. 20And it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud and the darkness, yet it lit up the night; and the one did not come near the other all the night.
21And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go by a strong wind of the east all the night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were split. 22And the sons of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground; and the waters were a wall to them on their right and on their left.
23And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them, all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen, into the midst of the sea. 24And it came to pass in the morning watch, that the LORD looked down upon the camp of Egypt in the pillar of fire and cloud, and confused the camp of Egypt. 25And he removed the wheels of their chariots, and made them drive with difficulty; and the Egyptians said, "Let me flee from before Israel, for the LORD fights for them against Egypt."

14:26And the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may return upon Egypt, upon its chariots and upon its horsemen." 27And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its strength toward the turning of morning; and the Egyptians were fleeing to meet it, and the LORD shook off the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. 28And the waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen, even all the army of Pharaoh that came after them into the sea; there did not remain among them even one.
29And the sons of Israel walked on the dry ground in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall to them on their right and on their left. 30And the LORD saved Israel on that day from the hand of Egypt; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the shore of the sea. 31And Israel saw the great hand which the LORD did against Egypt; and the people feared the LORD, and they believed in the LORD and in Moses his servant.
The Song at the Sea
15:1Then Moses and the sons of Israel sang this song to the LORD, and spoke, saying: "I will sing to the LORD, for he is highly exalted; the horse and its rider he has thrown into the sea.
2My strength and song is Yah, and he has become my salvation (Yeshuah); this is my God, and I will glorify him, the God of my father, and I will exalt him.
3The LORD is a man of war; the LORD is his name.
4Pharaoh's chariots and his army he has cast into the sea; and the choice of his officers are sunk in the Sea of Reeds.
5The deeps cover them; they went down into the depths like a stone.
6Your right hand, O LORD, is glorious in power; your right hand, O LORD, shatters the enemy.
7And in the greatness of your majesty you overthrow those who rise against you; you send out your burning wrath, it consumes them like stubble.
8And with the wind of your nostrils the waters were piled up; the flowing waters stood up like a heap; the deeps congealed in the heart of the sea.
9The enemy said, 'I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my soul shall be filled with them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall dispossess them.'
10You blew with your wind; the sea covered them; they sank like lead in the mighty waters.
11Who is like you among the gods, the LORD? Who is like you, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonder?
12You stretched out your right hand; the earth swallowed them.
13You in your lovingkindness led the people whom you redeemed; you guided them in your strength to your holy habitation.
14The peoples have heard, they tremble; anguish has seized the inhabitants of Philistia.
15Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed; the mighty ones of Moab, trembling seizes them; all the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away.
16Terror and dread fall upon them; by the greatness of your arm they are still as a stone, till your people pass over, O LORD, till the people pass over whom you have purchased.
17You bring them in and plant them in the mountain of your inheritance, the place for your dwelling which you have made, O LORD, the sanctuary, my Lord, which your hands have established.
18The LORD shall reign forever and ever.
19For the horse of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and the LORD brought back upon them the waters of the sea; but the sons of Israel walked on dry ground in the midst of the sea.
20And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took the timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. 21And Miriam answered them, "Sing to the LORD, for he is highly exalted; the horse and its rider he has thrown into the sea."
The Waters of Marah
22And Moses led Israel onward from the Sea of Reeds, and they went out to the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness and found no water. 23And they came to Marah, and they could not drink the waters from Marah, for they were bitter; therefore its name was called Marah.
24And the people murmured against Moses, saying, "What shall we drink?" 25And he cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree, and he cast it into the waters, and the waters were made sweet. There he set for him a statute and a judgment, and there he tested him. 26And he said, "If you will diligently listen to the voice of the LORD your God, and do what is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, all the disease which I put on Egypt I will not put on you; for I am the LORD your healer."

15:27And they came to Elim, and there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees; and they encamped there by the waters.
Manna and Quail from Heaven
16:1And they journeyed from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their going out from the land of Egypt. 2And all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness. 3And the children of Israel said to them: "Would that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pot of flesh, when we ate bread to the full; for you have brought us out into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger."
4And the LORD said to Moses: "Behold, I am raining for you bread from the heavens; and the people shall go out and gather a day's portion in its day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in My Torah, or not. 5And it shall come to pass on the sixth day that they shall prepare what they bring in, and it shall be double upon what they gather day by day."
6And Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel: "At evening, then you shall know that the LORD has brought you out from the land of Egypt; 7and in the morning, then you shall see the glory of the LORD, when He hears your murmurings against the LORD; and what are we, that you murmur against us?"
8And Moses said: "When the LORD gives you in the evening flesh to eat, and bread in the morning to the full, when the LORD hears your murmurings which you murmur against Him — and what are we? Your murmurings are not against us, but against the LORD."
9And Moses said to Aaron: "Say to all the congregation of the children of Israel: Come near before the LORD, for He has heard your murmurings."
10And it came to pass, as Aaron spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, that they turned toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.

16:11And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: 12"I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel. Speak to them, saying: Between the evenings you shall eat flesh, and in the morning you shall be satisfied with bread; and you shall know that I am the LORD your God."
13And it came to pass at evening, that the quail came up and covered the camp; and in the morning there was a layer of dew round about the camp. 14And the layer of dew went up, and behold, upon the face of the wilderness a fine, flake-like thing, fine as the frost upon the earth. 15And the children of Israel saw it, and they said a man to his brother: "What is it?" for they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them: "It is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat. 16This is the thing which the LORD has commanded: Gather of it, each man according to his eating, an omer for a head, according to the number of your souls; each man for those who are in his tent you shall take."
17And the children of Israel did so, and they gathered, the one much and the one little. 18And they measured with the omer, and he who gathered much had nothing over, and he who gathered little had no lack; each man according to his eating they gathered.
19And Moses said to them: "Let no man leave any of it until the morning." 20But they did not listen to Moses, and some men left of it until the morning, and it bred worms and stank; and Moses was angry with them.
21And they gathered it morning by morning, each man according to his eating; and when the sun grew hot, it melted.
The Shabbat Observed
22And it came to pass on the sixth day that they gathered double bread, two omers for one; and all the princes of the congregation came and told Moses. 23And he said to them: "This is what the LORD has spoken: Tomorrow is a Shabbaton, a Shabbat of holiness to the LORD. What you will bake, bake, and what you will boil, boil; and all that is left over lay up for yourselves as a charge until the morning."
24And they laid it up ad(עד) the morning, as Moses commanded, and it did not stink, nor was there a worm in it. 25And Moses said: "Eat it today, for today is a Shabbat to the LORD; today you shall not find it in the field. 26Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day is a Shabbat; in it there shall be none."
27And it came to pass on the seventh day that some of the people went out to gather, and they found none. 28And the LORD said to Moses: "How long do you refuse to keep My commandments and My Torah? 29See, for the LORD has given you the Shabbat; therefore He gives you on the sixth day bread for two days; abide each man in his place, let no man go out from his place on the seventh day."
30And the people shabbatted on the seventh day.
The Jar of Manna
31And the house of Israel called its name Manna; and it was like coriander seed, white, and its taste was like wafers with honey. 32And Moses said: "This is the thing which the LORD has commanded: Let a full omer of it be kept as a charge for your generations, that they may see the bread which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out from the land of Egypt."
33And Moses said to Aaron: "Take one jar, and put there a full omer of manna, and lay it up before the LORD as a charge for your generations." 34As the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony as a charge.
35And the children of Israel ate the manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land; they ate the manna until they came to the edge of the land of Canaan. 36Now the omer is the tenth part of an ephah.

Water from the Rock
17:1And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, by their stages, according to the mouth of the LORD, and they encamped in Rephidim; and there was no water for the people to drink. 2And the people strove with Moses, and said: "Give us water that we may drink." And Moses said to them: "Why do you strive with me? Why do you test the LORD?"
3And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said: "Why is this that you have brought us up out of Egypt, to kill me and my children and my cattle with thirst?"
4And Moses cried to the LORD, saying: "What shall I do to this people? A little more and they will stone me."
5And the LORD said to Moses: "Pass on before the people, and take with you of the elders of Israel; and your staff, with which you struck the river, take in your hand, and go. 6Behold, I will stand before you there upon the rock in Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water shall come out of it, and the people shall drink." And Moses did so in the eyes of the elders of Israel. 7And he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah, because of the striving of the children of Israel, and because they tested the LORD, saying: "Is the LORD among us, or not?"
The Defeat of the Amalekites
8And Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim. 9And Moses said to Joshua: "Choose for us men, and go out, fight with Amalek; tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand."
10And Joshua did as Moses had said to him, to fight with Amalek; and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
11And it came to pass, when Moses raised his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat upon it; and Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on this side and one on that side; and his hands were steadfast ad(עד) the going of the sun.
13And Joshua weakened Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
14And the LORD said to Moses: "Write this for a memorial in the book, and set it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens."
15And Moses built an altar, and called its name the LORD-Nissi; 16and he said: "For a hand is upon the throne of Yah; the LORD shall have war with Amalek from generation to generation."

4:4And Deborah, a woman, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, she was judging Israel at that time. 5And she was dwelling under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Beth-el in the hill country of Ephraim; and the sons of Israel came up to her for judgment.
6And she sent and called for Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh-naphtali, and said to him: "Has not the LORD, the God of Israel, commanded: Go and draw toward mount Tabor, and take with you ten thousand men of the sons of Naphtali and of the sons of Zebulun? 7And I will draw to you, to the brook Kishon, Sisera the captain of the army of Jabin, and his chariot, and his multitude; and I will give him into your hand."
8And Barak said to her: "If you go with me, then I will go; but if you do not go with me, I will not go."
9And she said: "Going I will go with you; nevertheless your glory will not be on the way which you are going, for into the hand of a woman the LORD will sell Sisera." And Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh. 10And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali together to Kedesh; and ten thousand men went up at his feet; and Deborah went up with him.
11Now Heber the Kenite had separated himself from the Kenites, from the sons of Hobab the father-in-law of Moses, and pitched his tent as far as the oak in Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh.
12And they told Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam had gone up to mount Tabor. 13And Sisera called together all his chariots, nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people that were with him, from Harosheth-goiim to the brook Kishon.
14And Deborah said to Barak: "Arise, for this is the day in which the LORD has given Sisera into your hand; has not the LORD gone out before you?" And Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him. 15And the LORD routed Sisera, and all the chariots, and all the camp, with the edge of the sword before Barak; and Sisera came down off his chariot and fled on his feet.
16And Barak pursued after the chariots and after the camp as far as Harosheth-goiim; and all the camp of Sisera fell by the edge of the sword; not even one was left.
Jael Kills Sisera
17And Sisera fled on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite; for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite. 18And Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said to him: "Turn aside, my lord, turn aside to me; do not fear." And he turned aside to her into the tent, and she covered him with a rug.
19And he said to her: "Give me to drink, please, a little water, for I am thirsty." And she opened the skin of milk and gave him drink, and covered him.
20And he said to her: "Stand at the door of the tent, and it shall be, if a man comes and asks you and says, 'Is there a man here?' then you shall say, 'No.'"
21And Jael, the wife of Heber, took a pin of the tent and put the hammer in her hand, and came to him softly, and drove the pin into his temple, and it went down into the ground; for he was in deep sleep and weary; and he died.
22And behold, Barak pursuing Sisera; and Jael went out to meet him, and said to him: "Come, and I will show you the man whom you are seeking." And he came to her, and behold, Sisera fallen dead, and the pin in his temple.
23And God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the sons of Israel. 24And the hand of the sons of Israel went, going on and growing hard against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they cut off Jabin king of Canaan.
The Song of Deborah and Barak
5:1And Deborah sang, and Barak the son of Abinoam, on that day, saying:
2"When the leaders led in Israel, when the people offered themselves willingly, bless the LORD.
3Hear, O kings; give ear, O rulers; I, to the LORD, I will sing; I will make music to the LORD, the God of Israel.
4The LORD, when you went out from Seir, when you marched from the field of Edom, the earth trembled, also the heavens dropped, also the clouds dropped water.
5The mountains flowed down before the LORD, this Sinai, before the LORD, the God of Israel.
6In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways ceased, and those who walked the paths walked crooked ways.
7The villagers ceased in Israel, they ceased, until I arose, Deborah, until I arose, a mother in Israel.
8He chose new gods; then war was in the gates; was a shield seen, or a spear, among forty thousand in Israel?
9My heart is toward the commanders of Israel, who offered themselves willingly among the people; bless the LORD.
10You who ride on white donkeys, you who sit on rich carpets, and you who walk by the way, speak of it! 11From the voice of those who divide at the watering places, there they recount the righteous acts of the LORD, the righteous acts of his rule in Israel. Then the people of the LORD went down to the gates.
12Awake, awake, Deborah! Awake, awake, utter a song! Arise, Barak, and take captive your captives, son of Abinoam!
13Then a survivor went down to the nobles, the people; the LORD went down for me among the mighty.
14Out of Ephraim, those whose root is in Amalek; after you, Benjamin, among your peoples; out of Machir came down commanders, and out of Zebulun those who handle the staff of the scribe.
15And my princes in Issachar were with Deborah; and Issachar, so was Barak; into the valley he was sent at his feet. Among the divisions of Reuben, great were the resolves of heart.
16Why did you sit among the sheepfolds, to hear the pipings for the flocks? At the divisions of Reuben, great were the searchings of heart.
17Gilead dwelt beyond the Jordan; and Dan, why did he sojourn by the ships? Asher sat at the shore of the seas, and dwelt by his bays.
18Zebulun is a people that scorned its soul to death, and Naphtali, on the heights of the field.
19The kings came, they fought; then fought the kings of Canaan in Taanach by the waters of Megiddo; gain of silver they did not take.
20From heaven they fought; the stars from their courses fought against Sisera.
21The brook Kishon swept them away, the ancient brook, the brook Kishon. You shall tread down, O my soul, with strength!
22Then the hoofs of the horse hammered, from the galloping, the galloping of his mighty ones.
23"Curse Meroz," said the angel of the LORD, "curse, cursing, its inhabitants; because they came not to the help of the LORD, to the help of the LORD among the mighty."
24Blessed above women shall Jael be, the wife of Heber the Kenite; above women in the tent shall she be blessed.
25Water he asked, milk she gave; in a lordly bowl she brought near curd.
26Her hand she put forth to the tent pin, and her right hand to the workmen's mallet; and she hammered Sisera, she crushed his head, and she shattered and pierced through his temple.
27Between her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay; between her feet he bowed, he fell; where he bowed, there he fell, destroyed.
28Through the window she looked down, and the mother of Sisera cried out through the lattice: "Why is his chariot delayed in coming? Why tarry the hoofbeats of his chariots?"
29The wise ones of her princesses answer her; indeed, she returns her own words to herself:
30"Are they not finding, dividing the spoil? A womb, two wombs for the head of each man; spoil of dyed garments for Sisera, spoil of dyed garments of embroidery, dyed work, double embroidery for the necks of the spoil?"
31So may all your enemies perish, O LORD; but may those who love him be like the going forth of the sun in its might." And the land was quiet forty years.

Warnings from Israel’s Past
10:1For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea, 2and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, 3and all ate the same spiritual food, 4and all drank the same spiritual drink; for they were drinking from a spiritual rock that followed them; and the rock was Messiah. 5Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; for they were laid low in the wilderness.
6Now these things happened as examples for us, so that we would not crave evil things as they also craved. 7Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: "The people sat down to eat and to drink, and stood up to play." 8Nor let us practice sexual immorality, as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day. 9Nor let us test Messiah, as some of them tested Him, and were destroyed by the serpents. 10Nor grumble, as some of them grumbled, and were destroyed by the destroyer.
11Now all these things happened to them as examples, and were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. 12Therefore let the one who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall. 13No temptation has overtaken you but what is human; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.

6:30So they said to Him, "What then do You do for a sign, so that we may see and believe You? What work do You perform? 31Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, 'He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.'"
32Yeshua then said to them, "Truly, truly I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven. 33For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world."
34Then they said to Him, "Lord, always give us this bread."
35Yeshua said to them, "I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.
