Psalms 97

1YHWH reigns; let the earth rejoice; let the many isles be glad.

2Cloud and thick darkness are around him; righteousness and judgment (mishpat) are the foundation of his throne.

3A fire goes before him, and burns up his adversaries round about.

4His lightnings lit up the world; the earth saw and trembled.

5The mountains melted like wax before YHWH, before the Lord of all the earth.

6The heavens declared his righteousness, and all the peoples saw his glory.

7Ashamed are all who serve (avad) a carved image, who boast themselves in idols; bow down to him, all gods.

8Zion heard and was glad, and the daughters of Judah rejoiced, because of your judgments (mishpat), YHWH.

9For you, YHWH, are Most High (Elyon) over all the earth; you are greatly exalted above all gods.

10O you who love YHWH, hate evil; he keeps the souls (nephesh) of his faithful ones; from the hand of the wicked he delivers them.

11Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.

12Be glad in YHWH, O righteous ones, and give thanks to his holy remembrance.
