Psalms 81

1To the leader; upon the Gittith. Of Asaph.

2Sing aloud to God our strength; shout to the God of Jacob.

3Lift up a melody, and give the timbrel, the pleasant lyre with the harp.

4Blow the shofar at the new moon, at the full moon for the day of our feast (chag).

5For it is a statute (choq) for Israel, a judgment (mishpat) of the God of Jacob.

6He appointed it as a testimony (edut) in Joseph, when he went out over the land of Egypt; a language I did not know I heard.

7"I removed his shoulder from the burden; his hands passed away from the basket.

8In distress you called, and I delivered you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah.

9Hear, my people, and I will testify against you; Israel, if you would listen to me!

10There shall be no strange god in you, and you shall not bow down to a foreign god.

11I am YHWH your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt; open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.

12But my people did not listen to my voice, and Israel was not willing for me.

13So I sent them away in the stubbornness of their heart; they walked in their own counsels.

14If only my people would listen to me, that Israel would walk in my ways!

15In a little while I would subdue their enemies, and turn my hand against their adversaries.

16Those who hate YHWH would cringe before him, and their time would be forever.

17And he would feed him with the fat of wheat; and from the rock with honey I would satisfy you."
