Psalms 57

1To the chief musician, "Do not destroy." Of David, a Michtam, when he fled from the face of Saul, in the cave.

2Be gracious to me, O God, be gracious to me, for in You my soul (nephesh) takes refuge; and in the shadow of Your wings I take refuge until destruction passes by.

3I call to God Most High (Elyon), to God who accomplishes it for me.

4He will send from heaven and save me; he who pants after me reproaches. Selah. God will send His lovingkindness and His truth.

5My soul (nephesh) is among lions; I lie down among those who blaze, the sons of man (adam), whose teeth are spear and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

6Be exalted above the heavens, O God; above all the earth be Your glory.

7A net they prepared for my steps; my soul (nephesh) was bowed down. They dug a pit before me; they have fallen into its midst. Selah.

8My heart is firm, O God, my heart is firm; I will sing and I will make music.

9Awake, my glory; awake, harp and lyre; I will awaken the dawn.

10I will give thanks to You among the peoples, my Lord (Adonai); I will sing praises to You among the nations.

11For Your lovingkindness is great unto the heavens, and Your truth unto the clouds.

12Be exalted above the heavens, O God; above all the earth be Your glory.
