25:10And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: 11"Phinehas son of Eleazar son of Aaron the priest has turned back my wrath from upon the sons of Israel, in his being jealous with my jealousy in their midst, so that I did not consume the sons of Israel in my jealousy. 12Therefore say: Behold, I am giving to him my covenant of peace; 13and it shall be to him and to his seed after him a covenant of an everlasting priesthood, because he was jealous for his God and made atonement for the sons of Israel."
14And the name of the man of Israel who was struck, who was struck with the Midianite woman, was Zimri son of Salu, a prince of a father's house among the Simeonites. 15And the name of the Midianite woman who was struck was Cozbi the daughter of Zur; he was head of the peoples of a father's house in Midian.
16And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: 17"Harass the Midianites and strike them, 18for they are harassing you with their wiles by which they beguiled you in the matter of Peor and in the matter of Cozbi the daughter of the prince of Midian, their sister, who was struck on the day of the plague in the matter of Peor." 19And it came to pass after the plague—

3And Moses and Eleazar the priest spoke with them in the plains of Moab by the Jordan of Jericho, saying: 4"From twenty years old and upward, as the LORD commanded Moses and the sons of Israel who came forth from the land of Egypt."

Give to us a possession in the midst of the brothers of our father."
5And Moses brought their cause before the LORD.

27:6And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: 7"The daughters of Zelophehad speak rightly; giving you shall give them a possession of an inheritance in the midst of the brothers of their father, and you shall cause the inheritance of their father to pass over to them.
8And to the sons of Israel you shall speak, saying: A man, if he dies and has no son, then you shall cause his inheritance to pass over to his daughter. 9And if he has no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers. 10And if he has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to the brothers of his father. 11And if his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his kinsman who is near to him of his family, and he shall possess it. And it shall be to the sons of Israel a statute of judgment, as the LORD commanded Moses."
Moses Requests a Successor
12And the LORD said to Moses: "Go up to this mountain of Abarim, and see the land which I have given to the sons of Israel. 13And when you have seen it, you also shall be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother was gathered; 14because you rebelled against my mouth in the wilderness of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me at the waters before their eyes." These are the waters of Meribath-kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.
15And Moses spoke to the LORD, saying: 16"Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation, 17who may go out before them, and who may come in before them, and who may bring them out, and who may bring them in; that the congregation of the LORD be not as sheep which have no shepherd."
Joshua to Succeed Moses
18And the LORD said to Moses: "Take to yourself Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is spirit, and lay your hand upon him; 19and you shall set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and you shall command him before their eyes. 20And you shall put of your honor upon him, that all the congregation of the sons of Israel may hearken. 21And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the LORD; at his mouth they shall go out, and at his mouth they shall come in, he and all the sons of Israel with him, even all the congregation."
22And Moses did as the LORD commanded him; and he took Joshua, and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation. 23And he laid his hands upon him, and commanded him, as the LORD spoke by the hand of Moses.

P1 Kings 18:46–19:21Chapter page with footnotes →
18:46And the hand of the LORD was upon Elijah, and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.
Elijah Flees from Jezebel
19:1And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and all how he had slain all the prophets with the sword. 2And Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, "So may God do, and so may they add, if at this time tomorrow I do not make your soul like the soul of one of them."
3And he saw, and arose, and went for his soul, and came to Beer-sheba which belongs to Judah, and left his young man there. 4And he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat under a certain broom tree; and he asked for his soul to die, and said, "It is enough; now, O LORD, take my soul, for I am not better than my fathers."
5And he lay down and slept under a certain broom tree; and behold, an angel was touching him, and said to him, "Arise, eat."
6And he looked, and behold, at his head a cake baked on hot stones, and a cruse of water; and he ate and drank, and returned and lay down.
7And the angel of the LORD returned a second time, and touched him, and said, "Arise, eat, for the journey is too great for you."
8And he arose, and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb the mountain of God.
The LORD Speaks to Elijah at Horeb
9And he came there to the cave, and lodged there; and behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and He said to him, "What to you here, Elijah?"
10And he said, "I have been very jealous for the LORD the God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and slain your prophets with the sword; and I, even I alone, am left, and they seek my soul to take it."
11And He said, "Go forth, and stand on the mountain before the LORD." And behold, the LORD passing by, and a great and strong wind rending the mountains and breaking the rocks in pieces before the LORD — not in the wind was the LORD; and after the wind an earthquake — not in the earthquake was the LORD;
12and after the earthquake a fire — not in the fire was the LORD; and after the fire a voice of thin silence. 13And it came to pass, when Elijah heard, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood at the entrance of the cave; and behold, to him a voice, and it said, "What to you here, Elijah?"
14And he said, "I have been very jealous for the LORD the God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and slain your prophets with the sword; and I, even I alone, am left, and they seek my soul to take it."
15And the LORD said to him, "Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus; and you shall come and anoint Hazael to be king over Aram; 16and Jehu the son of Nimshi you shall anoint to be king over Israel; and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah you shall anoint to be prophet in your place.
17And it shall be, that the one who escapes from the sword of Hazael, Jehu shall put to death; and the one who escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha shall put to death.
18And I have left in Israel seven thousand, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him."
The Call of Elisha
19And he went from there, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, and he was plowing with twelve yoke before him, and he with the twelfth; and Elijah passed over to him, and cast his mantle upon him.
20And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, "Let me kiss, please, my father and my mother, and then I will go after you." And he said to him, "Go, return; for what have I done to you?"
21And he returned from after him, and took the yoke of oxen, and slaughtered it, and with the implements of the oxen he boiled the flesh, and gave to the people, and they ate; and he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered to him.

The Lord of the Sabbaton
12:1At that appointed time Yeshua went through the grain fields on the sabbatons; and His disciples became hungry and began to pick heads of grain and eat. 2But the Pharisees seeing this said to Him: "Behold, Your disciples are doing what is not permitted to do on the sabbaton."
3But He said to them: "Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, and those with him — 4how he entered the house of God and ate the bread of the Presence, which was not permitted for him to eat nor for those with him, but only for the priests alone?"
5Or have you not read in the law that on the sabbatons the priests in the temple profane the sabbaton and are innocent? 6But I say to you that something greater than the temple is here.
7And if you had known what this means — 'I desire mercy and not sacrifice' — you would not have condemned the innocent. 8For the Son of Man is Lord of the sabbaton."
