Marrying a Captive Woman
21:10When you go out to the battle against your enemies, and the LORD your God gives him into your hand, and you take captive his captivity, 11and you see among the captives a woman of beautiful form, and you desire her, and you take her to yourself for a wife, 12then you shall bring her into the midst of your house, and she shall shave her head and do her nails, 13and she shall remove the garment of her captivity from upon her, and she shall dwell in your house, and bewail her father and her mother a month of days; and after that you shall come to her and be her husband, and she shall become to you for a wife. 14And it shall be, if you have no delight in her, then you shall send her away to her soul; and you shall not sell her at all for money; you shall not deal with her as a slave, because you have humbled her.
Inheritance Rights of the Firstborn
15If a man has two wives, the one loved and the one hated, and they bear him sons, the loved and the hated, and the firstborn son is the hated one's, 16then it shall be, in the day that he causes his sons to inherit what he has, he is not able to make the son of the loved one the firstborn over the face of the son of the hated, the firstborn.
17But the firstborn, the son of the hated, he shall acknowledge, to give him a mouth of two (a double portion) of all that is found with him; for he is the first of his strength; to him is the judgment of the firstborn.
A Rebellious Son
18If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son, who does not listen to the voice of his father and the voice of his mother, and they chasten him but he does not listen to them, 19then his father and his mother shall lay hold on him and bring him out to the elders of his city and to the gate of his place, 20and they shall say to the elders of his city, "This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he does not listen to our voice; he is a glutton and a drunkard."
21And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die; so you shall put away the evil from your midst; and all Israel shall hear and fear.

Cursed Is Anyone Hung on a Tree
21:22And if there is in a man a sin, a judgment of death, and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree, 23his corpse shall not remain overnight on the tree, but you shall surely bury him on that day; for a curse of God is one hanged; and you shall not defile your ground which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance.
Various Laws
22:1You shall not see your brother's ox or his sheep driven away, and hide yourself from them; you shall surely return them to your brother. 2And if your brother is not near to you, and you do not know him, then you shall gather it into the midst of your house, and it shall be with you until your brother seeks it, and you shall return it to him. 3And so you shall do to his donkey, and so you shall do to his garment, and so you shall do to every lost thing of your brother's, which is lost from him and you have found; you are not able to hide yourself.
4You shall not see your brother's donkey or his ox falling down on the way, and hide yourself from them; you shall surely lift up with him.
5The gear of a man shall not be upon a woman, and a man shall not put on the garment of a woman; for an abomination of the LORD your God is everyone doing these.
6When a bird's nest happens to be before you on the way, in any tree or on the earth, young ones or eggs, and the mother crouching upon the young ones or upon the eggs, you shall not take the mother with the sons. 7You shall surely send away the mother, and the young you shall take for yourself; so that it may be good for you, and you may prolong days.

22:8When you build a new house, then you shall make a parapet for your roof, that you do not put blood in your house, if the falling one falls from it.
9You shall not sow your vineyard with mixed kinds, lest the fullness of the seed which you sow be made holy, and the produce of the vineyard.
10You shall not plow with an ox and a donkey together.
11You shall not wear a mingled fabric, wool and linen together.
12Tassels you shall make for yourself upon the four corners of your covering with which you cover yourself.
Marriage Violations
13If a man takes a wife, and goes in to her, and hates her, 14and lays against her wanton charges of words, and brings out upon her an evil name, and says, "This woman I took, and I drew near to her, and I did not find in her virginity";
15then the father of the young woman and her mother shall take and bring out the tokens of the young woman's virginity to the elders of the city, to the gate. 16And the father of the young woman shall say to the elders, "My daughter I gave to this man for a wife, and he hated her; 17and behold, he has laid wanton charges of words, saying, 'I did not find for your daughter virginity'; and these are the tokens of my daughter's virginity." And they shall spread the garment before the elders of the city.
18And the elders of that city shall take the man and chasten him, 19and they shall fine him a hundred of silver and give them to the father of the young woman, because he brought out an evil name upon a virgin of Israel; and she shall be to him for a wife; he is not able to send her away all his days.
20But if this thing was true, virginity was not found for the young woman, 21then they shall bring out the young woman to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones, that she die; because she has done folly in Israel, to play the harlot in her father's house; so you shall put away the evil from your midst.
22If a man is found lying with a woman married to a husband, then they shall die, even both of them, the man who lay with the woman, and the woman; so you shall put away the evil from Israel.
23If there is a young woman, a virgin betrothed to a man, and a man finds her in the city, and lies with her, 24then you shall bring out both of them to the gate of that city, and you shall stone them with stones, that they die: the young woman, because she did not cry out in the city, and the man, because he humbled his neighbor's wife; so you shall put away the evil from your midst.
25But if in the field the man finds the betrothed young woman, and the man seizes her and lies with her, then the man who lay with her shall die alone. 26And to the young woman you shall do nothing; there is for the young woman no sin of death; for as when a man rises against his neighbor and murders him — a soul — so is this thing. 27For in the field he found her; the betrothed young woman cried out, and there was none to save her.
28If a man finds a young woman, a virgin, who is not betrothed, and seizes her and lies with her, and they are found, 29then the man who lay with her shall give to the father of the young woman fifty of silver, and she shall be to him for a wife; because he humbled her, he is not able to send her away all his days.
23:1A man shall not take his father's wife, and he shall not uncover his father's skirt.
Exclusion from the Congregation
2One wounded by crushing or one cut off in the member shall not enter into the assembly of the LORD.
3A bastard shall not enter into the assembly of the LORD; even to the tenth generation none of his shall enter into the assembly of the LORD.
4An Ammonite or a Moabite shall not enter into the assembly of the LORD; even to the tenth generation none belonging to them shall enter into the assembly of the LORD forever, 5concerning the matter that they did not meet you with bread and with water in the way, when you came out from Egypt; and because he hired against you Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor of Aram-naharaim, to curse you. 6But the LORD your God was not willing to listen to Balaam; and the LORD your God turned for you the curse into a blessing, because the LORD your God loved you. 7You shall not seek their peace nor their good all your days forever.

23:8You shall not abhor an Edomite, for he is your brother; you shall not abhor an Egyptian, because you were a sojourner in his land. 9Sons who are born to them, in the third generation, may enter for them into the assembly of the LORD.
Uncleanness in the Camp
10When you go out as a camp against your enemies, then you shall keep yourself from every evil thing. 11If there is among you a man who is not clean because of an occurrence of the night, then he shall go out to outside the camp; he shall not come into the midst of the camp. 12And it shall be, toward the turning of evening, he shall wash himself in water; and when the sun goes in, he may come into the midst of the camp.
13And a hand shall be to you outside the camp, and you shall go out there, outside; 14And a peg shall be to you upon your weapon; and it shall be, when you sit down outside, you shall dig with it, and you shall turn back and cover your excrement.
15For the LORD your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you and to give your enemies before you; therefore your camp shall be holy, that he may not see in you a nakedness of a thing and turn away from after you. 16You shall not hand over a servant to his master, who escapes to you from his master. 17With you he shall dwell, in your midst, in the place that he chooses within one of your gates, where it is good for him; you shall not oppress him.
Miscellaneous Laws
18There shall not be a sacred prostitute of the daughters of Israel, nor shall there be a sacred prostitute of the sons of Israel. 19You shall not bring the hire of a harlot or the price of a dog into the house of the LORD your God for any vow; for both of them are an abomination of the LORD your God.
20You shall not lend on interest to your brother: interest of money, interest of food, interest of any thing that is lent on interest. 21To the foreigner you may lend on interest, but to your brother you shall not lend on interest; so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the putting-forth of your hand, upon the land where you are going in to possess it.
22When you vow a vow to the LORD your God, you shall not delay to pay it; for the LORD your God will surely require it from you, and it would be sin in you. 23But if you forbear to vow, it shall be no sin in you. 24The going-out of your lips you shall keep and do, just as you vowed to the LORD your God a freewill-offering, which you spoke with your mouth.

23:25When you come into the vineyard of your neighbor, then you may eat grapes according to your soul, your fill; but into your vessel you shall not put.
26When you come into the standing-grain of your neighbor, then you may pluck ears with your hand; but a sickle you shall not wave over the standing-grain of your neighbor.
Marriage and Divorce Laws
24:1When a man takes a woman and marries her, then it shall be, if she does not find favor in his eyes, because he has found in her a nakedness of a thing, that he writes her a scroll of divorce and gives it in her hand and sends her out from his house,
2and she goes out from his house, and goes and becomes to another man; 3and the latter man hates her, and writes her a scroll of divorce and gives it in her hand and sends her out from his house; or if the latter man dies, who took her to himself for a wife; 4her former husband, who sent her away, is not able to return to take her to be to him for a wife, after she has been defiled; for that is an abomination before the LORD; and you shall not cause the land to sin, which the LORD your God is giving to you as an inheritance.

24:5When a man takes a new wife, he shall not go out in the army, and it shall not pass upon him for any matter; free shall he be for his house one year, and he shall gladden his wife whom he has taken.
Additional Laws
6No one shall take to pledge a mill or an upper millstone, for he is taking a soul to pledge.
7If a man is found stealing a soul from his brothers, from the sons of Israel, and he deals tyrannically with him and sells him, then that thief shall die; and you shall burn away the evil from your midst.
8Take heed in the plague of leprosy, to keep diligently and to do according to all that the priests, the Levites, teach you; as I commanded them, so you shall keep to do. 9Remember what the LORD your God did to Miriam, in the way when you came out from Egypt.
10When you lend your neighbor a loan of anything, you shall not go into his house to take his pledge. 11Outside you shall stand, and the man to whom you are lending shall bring out to you the pledge to the outside. 12And if he is a poor man, you shall not lie down in his pledge. 13Returning you shall return to him the pledge when the sun goes in, that he may lie down in his garment and bless you; and to you it shall be righteousness before the LORD your God.

24:14You shall not oppress a hired-laborer who is poor and needy, from your brothers or from your sojourner who is in your land within your gates. 15In his day you shall give his wages, and the sun shall not go down upon it; for he is poor, and to it he lifts up his soul; lest he cry against you to the LORD, and it be sin in you.
16Fathers shall not be put to death for sons, and sons shall not be put to death for fathers; each man for his own sin shall be put to death.
17You shall not turn aside the judgment of a sojourner or a fatherless one; and you shall not take to pledge the garment of a widow. 18And you shall remember that you were a servant in Egypt, and the LORD your God redeemed you from there; therefore I am commanding you to do this thing.
19When you reap your harvest in your field, and you forget a sheaf in the field, you shall not turn back to take it; for the sojourner, for the fatherless, and for the widow it shall be; that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.
20When you beat your olive tree, you shall not go over the boughs after you; for the sojourner, for the fatherless, and for the widow it shall be.
21When you gather the grapes of your vineyard, you shall not glean after you; for the sojourner, for the fatherless, and for the widow it shall be. 22And you shall remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt; therefore I am commanding you to do this thing.
Fairness and Mercy
25:1When there is a dispute between men, and they come near to the judgment, and they judge them, then they justify the righteous and condemn the wicked.
2And it shall be, if the wicked one is a son of beating, then the judge shall make him lie down, and one shall beat him before his face, according to the measure of his wickedness, by number. 3Forty times he may beat him; he shall not add; lest he add to beat him beyond these a great beating, and your brother be dishonored before your eyes.
4You shall not muzzle an ox in his threshing.
Widowhood and Marriage
5When brothers dwell together, and one of them dies, and he has no son, the wife of the dead shall not be outside to a strange man; her husband's brother shall go in to her, and take her to himself for a wife, and perform the levirate-duty for her. 6And it shall be, the firstborn whom she bears shall rise upon the name of his dead brother, that his name not be blotted out from Israel.
7And if the man does not desire to take his brother's wife, then his brother's wife shall go up to the gate, to the elders, and say, "My husband's brother refuses to raise up for his brother a name in Israel; he is not willing to perform the levirate-duty for me."
8Then the elders of his city shall call him and speak to him; and he stands and says, "I do not desire to take her," 9then his brother's wife shall draw near to him before the eyes of the elders, and she shall draw off his sandal from upon his foot, and spit in his face; and she shall answer and say, "So shall it be done to the man who does not build up the house of his brother." 10And his name shall be called in Israel, "The house of the one whose sandal is drawn off."
11When men struggle together, a man and his brother, and the wife of the one draws near to deliver her husband from the hand of the one striking him, and she puts out her hand and seizes by his private parts, 12then you shall cut off her hand; your eye shall not pity.
Standard Weights and Measures
13You shall not have in your bag a stone and a stone, a great and a small. 14You shall not have in your house an ephah and an ephah, a great and a small.
15A whole and just stone shall be to you, a whole and just ephah shall be to you; that your days may be long upon the ground which the LORD your God is giving to you. 16For an abomination of the LORD your God is everyone doing these things, everyone doing injustice.
Revenge on the Amalekites
17Remember what Amalek did to you in the way, when you came out from Egypt; 18how he met you in the way and cut off your rear, all the feeble ones behind you, when you were faint and weary; and he did not fear God.
19And it shall be, when the LORD your God gives you rest from all your enemies round about, in the land which the LORD your God is giving to you as an inheritance to possess it, you shall blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens; you shall not forget.

Future Blessings for Zion
54:1Sing, O barren one who did not bear; break forth into singing and cry aloud, you who did not travail; for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married woman, says the LORD.
2Enlarge the place of your tent, and let them stretch out the curtains of your tabernacles; spare not; lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes.
3For to the right and to the left you shall break forth, and your seed shall possess nations, and they shall inhabit desolate cities.
4Fear not, for you shall not be ashamed; neither be confounded, for you shall not be put to shame; for the shame of your youth you shall forget, and the reproach of your widowhood you shall remember no more.
5For your Maker is your husband—the LORD of hosts is his name—and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; the God of all the earth he is called.
6For like a woman forsaken and grieved of spirit the LORD has called you, and like a wife of youth when she is rejected, says your God.
7For a small moment I forsook you, but with great compassion I will gather you.
8In an overflow of wrath I hid my face from you for a moment, but with everlasting kindness I have had compassion on you, says the LORD your Redeemer.
9For this is to me as the waters of Noah, when I swore that the waters of Noah should no more pass over the earth; so I have sworn not to be wroth with you, nor to rebuke you.
10For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my kindness shall not depart from you, neither shall my covenant of peace be removed, says the LORD who has compassion on you.

9:7Who at any time serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat its fruit? Or who tends a flock and does not drink from the milk of the flock?
8I am not saying these things according to human judgment, am I? Does not the law also say these things? 9For it is written in the law of Moses: "You shall not muzzle the ox while it is threshing." God is not concerned about oxen, is He? 10Or is He speaking entirely for our sake? Yes, for our sake it was written, because the one who plows ought to plow in hope, and the one who threshes in hope of partaking.
11If we sowed spiritual things in you, is it too much if we reap material things from you? 12If others share in this right over you, do we not more? Nevertheless, we did not use this right, but we endure all things so that we will cause no hindrance to the good news of Messiah.
