Psalms 6

1For the leader, with stringed instruments, upon the Sheminith. A Psalm of David.

2YHWH, do not rebuke me in your anger, and do not chasten me in your wrath.

3Be gracious to me, YHWH, for I am feeble; heal me, YHWH, for my bones are dismayed.

4And my soul (nephesh) is greatly dismayed; and you, YHWH, until when?

5Return, YHWH, deliver my soul (nephesh); save me (yasha) for the sake of your lovingkindness.

6For in death there is no remembrance of you; in Sheol who gives you thanks?

7I am weary with my groaning; every night I make my bed to swim; with my tears I dissolve my couch.

8My eye has wasted away from grief; it has grown old because of all my adversaries.

9Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity, for YHWH has heard the voice of my weeping.

10YHWH has heard my supplication; YHWH takes my prayer.

11All my enemies shall be ashamed and greatly dismayed; they shall turn back, they shall be ashamed in a moment.
