Isaiah 18

1Woe, land of buzzing wings, which is beyond the rivers of Cush.

2That sends ambassadors by the sea, and in vessels of papyrus upon the face of the waters. Go, swift messengers, to a nation drawn out and polished, to a people feared from it and onward, a nation of line upon line and treading down, whose land the rivers divide.

3All you inhabitants of the world and dwellers of the earth, when a banner is lifted up on the mountains, you shall see; and when the shofar is blown, you shall hear.

4For thus said YHWH to me: I will be still, and I will look on in my dwelling place, like clear heat upon light, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.

5For before the harvest, when the blossom is complete, and the bud becomes a ripening grape, then he cuts off the sprigs with pruning hooks, and the tendrils he removes, he lops off.

6They shall be left together to the birds of prey of the mountains and to the beasts of the earth; and the bird of prey shall summer upon them, and every beast of the earth shall winter upon them.

7In that time a gift shall be brought to YHWH of hosts (tzevaot), a people drawn out and polished, and from a people feared from it and onward, a nation of line upon line and treading down, whose land the rivers divide, to the place of the name of YHWH of hosts (tzevaot), Mount Zion.
