Why it is free

This is the question we are asked most often. The answer begins in one sentence and ends in that same sentence.

The same word is used twice. It means that the way you received and the way you give must be the same. If we received this Word freely, then we must give it freely. The financial principle of this organization goes no further than that.

So that price is not the obstacle

The price of one Bible is nothing to one person and a meal to another. Original-language software commonly costs hundreds of dollars. We do not want anyone to have to work out what they can afford before they can approach the Word.

So we put no in-app purchases in the apps, listed the ebooks and audiobooks in the stores at no charge, and left the complete original-language analysis open on the web.

Amazon is the one place with a price

There is a single exception. Amazon provides no way to list at no charge. So we set the lowest price it allows. The same books can be had free elsewhere — see Get the Bible. Amazon is only a route for those already looking for a book there.

It continues without giving

There is no reason to close what is already open. The translation is finished, the analysis is published, the apps are downloaded. Giving does one thing — it carries this into more languages. Nothing else here needs it. If you are considering it, see Give. If you are not, nothing changes.

What we ask instead

There is something you can do in place of paying.

• Tell one person. More people than you would think believe they cannot read the Bible because they do not have one.
• Do not read alone — read together. The order is set out on YLV Bible Study.
