About this book

“And it was the day, that the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them.” — Job 1:6

Who were “the sons of God”? In Genesis 6 they saw the daughters of man and took wives, and in the book of Job they stand before the throne of God. Many readers were taught that they were angels. This short study, a part of Book 7 of The Original Ekklesia, examines every passage of Scripture on the question and weighs the evidence with care.

Scripture never once calls fallen angels “sons of God,” and the flood account of Genesis 6 to 8 judges man and all flesh, not a single heavenly being. The book sets out the angel view fairly, including its strongest biblical texts, the Qumran scrolls, and the early writers who held it, and then lets Scripture answer.

• Who stood in the council of heaven in Job 1, and who “the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven” are (Hebrews 12:23)

• Why the angels at Sodom ate a meal, yet no angel in Scripture ever married

• The disputed passages in Jude 6–7, 2 Peter 2:4–6, and 1 Peter 3:19–20, with each interpretation and its difficulties

• The Nephilim before and after the flood, and the same three words in Genesis 3:6 and 6:2

• Satan’s aim at “the mountain of appointed time” (Isaiah 14:13)

• Job 38:7, and a hypothesis about a Paradise beyond time

Every Scripture passage is quoted in full from the Yeshua Literal Version (YLV), with the key Hebrew and Greek words explained in plain English. The YLV New Testament uses the Byzantine Majority Text (Robinson–Pierpont 2018) as its reference text.
